Acceptable Use Policy

This policy defines the acceptable and prohibited uses of the Verilexa litigation intelligence platform. It protects Verilexa, its users, and the integrity of the legal system by establishing clear expectations.

1. Intended Use

Verilexa is designed exclusively for licensed attorneys and their authorized staff for litigation support, case analysis, and legal research. All outputs are advisory intelligence only and must be reviewed and verified by a licensed attorney before use in any legal proceeding.

2. Acceptable Uses

  • Upload and organize case files, discovery, and evidence for cases where you are counsel of record or authorized to assist.
  • Generate AI-powered analysis including contradiction detection, evidence chain mapping, Brady analysis, suppression analysis, and readiness scoring.
  • Draft motions, briefs, and filings for attorney review and finalization.
  • Conduct legal research and develop case strategy.
  • Use intelligence insights to prepare for depositions, hearings, and trial.
  • Access the platform in Courtroom Mode during live proceedings, subject to court rules.

3. Prohibited Uses

3.1 Legal and Ethical Violations

  • Practice law without a valid license in the applicable jurisdiction.
  • Submit AI-generated content to a court without attorney review and verification.
  • Represent AI analysis as independent attorney work product without required disclosure.
  • Violate attorney-client privilege by sharing case data with unauthorized persons.
  • Circumvent court orders, discovery obligations, or ethical rules.

3.2 Data Misuse

  • Upload data for cases where you are not counsel of record or authorized to access.
  • Store or process data unrelated to legitimate legal matters.
  • Attempt to access another user's cases or data.
  • Extract or bulk-download data for purposes beyond legitimate case work.
  • Share login credentials or allow unauthorized platform access.

3.3 System Abuse

  • Attempt to circumvent access controls, authentication, or Row-Level Security policies.
  • Probe, scan, or test for vulnerabilities without written authorization.
  • Introduce malicious code or harmful content.
  • Use unauthorized automated tools (bots, scrapers) to interact with the platform.
  • Intentionally overload the platform through excessive requests.
  • Reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble any platform component.

3.4 AI-Specific Prohibitions

  • Rely on AI outputs as a substitute for independent legal judgment.
  • Use AI analysis without verifying against original source materials.
  • Override or circumvent the advisory compliance envelope.
  • Use the platform to generate misleading or fraudulent legal arguments.

4. Data Handling

  • Users are responsible for handling uploaded data per attorney-client privilege rules.
  • Sensitive data (SSN, financial accounts, health records) should only be uploaded when directly relevant to a case.
  • Users handling PHI must comply with HIPAA requirements.
  • Users must comply with protective orders and confidentiality agreements governing case materials.

5. Advisory Acknowledgment

All AI outputs carry an immutable advisory label with confidence score, source attribution, and risk classification. Users acknowledge that:

  • AI outputs require licensed attorney review before use.
  • Verilexa does not practice law or provide legal advice.
  • The attorney of record bears full professional responsibility.
  • Confidence scores are estimates, not guarantees.

6. Bar Rule Compliance

Users must comply with applicable state bar rules regarding AI and technology use in legal practice. Verilexa is designed within NC State Bar Advisory Opinion guidelines. Users in other jurisdictions must verify compliance with their applicable rules. AI tool use must be disclosed where required by local court rules.

7. Account Security

  • Maintain confidentiality of login credentials.
  • Enable multi-factor authentication when available.
  • Report suspected unauthorized access immediately.
  • Sign out when leaving a workstation unattended.

8. Consequences

Violations may result in: warning, temporary suspension, permanent termination, referral to the applicable state bar, or legal action for violations causing harm.

9. Reporting

Report violations to compliance@verilexa.com or through the platform support channel.

10. Review Schedule

Reviewed annually or upon changes to applicable bar rules, regulations, or platform capabilities.
